Wisdom and perspective on beginning a New Year...
Bernie Siegel, Alternative Physician and Author
Life is about beginning. When you graduate from school it is called a commencement. So rebirth yourself and keep beginning every time there is a change in you or your life. This is a new year so abandon the past and start anew. http://www.berniesiegelmd.com/

In Oriental Medicine this is the time of the Kidney/Bladder Meridian. Winter is the time to drink and eat warm to hot foods/soups. To go to bed early and get up with the sun. To conserve energy with rest and 7-9 hours of sleep. These things build us up for the coming Spring and Summer when we are more active. Rubbing the bottom of our feet especially 1/3 of the way down from the toes and around the ankles. This will strengthen the K/B Meridians. And to get an Acupuncture treatment for your "tune-ups" - this will keep your immune system stronger. And WASH YOUR HANDS!!! www.acudebra.com

Changes are happening in our world and many are feeling very uncomfortable. But the good news is that uncomfortable feelings lead to growth. And growth, especially spiritual growth makes us stronger, happier people. If you are feeling uncomfortable now here are a few things to consider:
Try not to avoid the problem. Say to yourself, "What am I uncomfortable about?" The voice inside might say job, money, love, health, security, etc. Then try to take one action, no matter how small, to face that problem head on. If it is job stability then perhaps pull out your old resume and dust it off.
If it is your current relationship that needs confronting then write out a few sentences of what you want to talk with your partner about.
If it is security, then sit down for a few minutes and look over your investments or your insurance and ask yourself if a change is needed. (Suze Orman has a great rule of thumb for deciding whether to hold on to an investment. She says if you would be willing to buy that same investment today then it is worth holding on to, otherwise sell it.)
In times like these it is best to limit the amount of news you watch. It is good to stay informed but the constant bombardment of negative statistics can be overwhelming. Shut it off for a while. Get your headlines from the internet or a newspaper but turn off the TV news until they find something else to talk about.
