Organic Clothing / Organic Bedding

/GMO CottonAre you aware that conventional cotton is one of the most heavily sprayed industries in the world and therefore may be a source of exposure to harmful pesticides, fungicides, herbicides and chemical fertilizers? If your immune system is compromised in any way, or your body is in a weakened state due to illness, reducing your exposure to toxins in the clothes you wear and the bedding you sleep on can help to reduce your toxic load. Not only are organic fabrics better for you, but also help keep our water, air and environment as a whole, cleaner. Organic cotton is grown free of toxic chemicals, and to be certified organic, growers must adhere to a strict set of guidelines based on the scientific method of organic agriculture.

Best of all the days of boring and dull organic choices in clothing and bedding are long gone. More and more companies are offering organic fiber fashions and bedding in a variety of beautiful colors and the latest fashion styles. And organic is going mainstream too, no longer limited to obscure websites and shop. Many retailers now offer organic clothing - from Wal-Mart to Nordstrom. I have seen organic cotton sheets and towels in many retail and online stores, from Target and JCPenney to Bloomingdale’s and Nordstroms. Anna Sova (www.annasova.com), offer luxurious organicl sheets, towels and their paints are a real treat (non-toxic and smell great, too!) . Another favorite of mine is Under the Canopy (www.underthecanopy.com), offering great organic bedding, towels, and clothing for the entire family. In addition to organic cotton, two relatively new fabrics to look for include: Soy – an eco-friendly textile fiber made from renewable and biodegradable resources, and Bamboo – 100% bamboo pulp fiber is naturally antibacterial and eco-friendly, plus is said to be cooler than cotton in warm weather and very soft to the touch.
